.. Open Source colorimeter….. Reshared post from +Richard Hughes For the past 3 weeks I've been working long nights on an open source colorimeter called the ColorHug. This is hardware that measures the colors shown on the screen and creates a color profile. Existing hardware is proprietary and 100% closed, and my hardware has a GPL bootloader, GPL firmware image and GPL hardware schematics and PCBs. It's faster than the proprietary hardware, and more importantly a lot cheaper. Making hardware does cost money, and I can't give the hardware away for free like I do my other software. I'm aiming to do an initial production run of 50 units, but I'm going to need some advanced orders just to make sure I don't get stuck with a lot of stock and no buyers. I'm offering a 20% discount on each unit, on the assumption the first users will be testing the firmware and reporting problems. If you want to support a cool open source project, I'm asking £48 for each unit, plus postage and packaging. There's a whole website http://www.hughski.com/ if you want to know more about the project, and there's even an newsletter if you don't need hardware, but […]

Do you or have you thought about using a site like Kickstarter.com to fund your Photo or artistic projects? I would love to start a site dedicated to photographers and similar artists where it works like Kickstarter and allows people to fund creative work or equipment purchases for artists that might never have been able to push their career forward could with donations or assistance from other photographers… Has anyone used Kickstarter to try to do this? Have you been successful? Would it need a different audience? Very interested in people's points of view on something like this… Maybe we can get the big guns involved…. +Colby Brown +Robert Scoble +Trey Ratcliff +Thomas Hawk +Lisa Bettany +Catherine Hall +Frederick Van Johnson et all.. What are your opinions? Would the ability for people to privately fund artistic projects be a good thing? Would it turn into a disaster? Would zero or limited payoff to the investor be acceptable? Much like Kickstarter selling your creative idea is a key part to most sussessful projects – this could help people hone their creative pitches and get support in the process.. So community – what do you think? This was spurred by the recent […]

Dear iPod nano owner, Apple has determined that, in very rare cases, the battery in the iPod nano (1st generation) may overheat and pose a safety risk. Affected iPod nanos were sold between September 2005 and December 2006. This issue has been traced to a single battery supplier that produced batteries with a manufacturing defect. While the possibility of an incident is rare, the likelihood increases as the battery ages. Apple recommends that you stop using your iPod nano (1st gen) and follow the process noted below to order a replacement unit, free of charge. Note: This battery issue is specific to the iPod nano (1st gen) and does not affect any other iPod. Replacement Process You may order a replacement unit via the web. Click here to begin.http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano_replacement/?cid=CDM-US-DM-P0010121-CON&cp=em–&sr=em Your iPod nano serial number will be checked to verify that it is eligible for this program. You will receive a replacement unit approximately 6 weeks after we receive your current iPod nano (1st gen). If you have a personalized iPod nano, you will receive a non-personalized replacement. Make sure to use iTunes to back up any data on your current iPod nano before sending it in for a replacement unit. […]

So when you go to a workshop but help and observe and not technically shoot you do what you can to try to get something before the end of the day… I needed something to post here….. 1600ish ISO under the lights we were using… IE – these were modeling lights…well and then we had an argument I could not shoot handheld at 1600 – which seems to be the case because its slightly out of focus… well I think it's actually a bad lens… we will see…. Nothing like being without a camera and lens for about a month… This post has been reshared 1 times on Google+ View this post on Google+
