Do you like to share your skills with others and learning from others? Lightroom is a amazing tool, and using it as a new photographer should become part of your learning experience. Post processing can separate you from many in the industry. Nothing replaces a great shot out of the camera but a RAW workflow can make a huge difference to so many aspect of your photography.  A friend went to Alaska and said to me – "Hey – check out this photo, got any pointers…." So I went for it and gave it a whirl via Lightroom as I know that is what he has to use for the time being and many times Photoshop can be overwhelming….. All I can say is RAW gives you access to a massive canvas of options and opportunities. I made about 15 different versions of the same base image from subtle to over the top in less that 10 minutes.  The Result: He is now amazed by what can be pulled from what in the beginning might be considered more of a snapshot to something he can share with friends and family to show the beauty of Alaska.  Weather you agree or disagree with heavy or light editing or manipulation – […]

Well I thought the Introduction of +Trey Ratcliff 's new aptly names Presets was supposed to be a secret for a few more days but clearly it leaked out all over G+…. so I might as well be the first to give them a try on an image that Trey might not ever shoot…….to see if they can work for more than just what they might be intended for….You tell me what you think…..? Presets interest me as I have been using them lately as a way to maintain interest and boost my ability to be more creative and push myself to try new things that are more outside my comfort level. I think many can use them as a crutch (lets call it Instagram) but even there the use of filters and presets etc are making more people pick up a camera and just try to show us the world through their eyes… so why not…. Even if some of us think it looks like crap in some cases, the base result is more interesting stuff to look at in my daily stream… Here is the link to Trey's video about the new Presets and if they are not available to purchase […]

I am not sure if I should be happy or angry…. So +J. Rae Chipera (thanks ) noticed that one of my images was up on Flickr in someones profile there.. (at least they gave me credit….) http://www.flickr.com/photos/23073823@N02/ Best part is I am not alone…as this person is happily posting up everyone's images from 500px.com – so depending on how you like to handle your images you might want to take a look and deal with it as you wish… Part of me does not care, part of me wishes he put a full link to my site.. and the other part feels many others on there might care a great deal… so if you do care deal with it as you see fit….I really have no issues with people using my stuff as long as they tell me and I give them permission or they give me full credit.. I just like to know where it's being used more for my personal knowledge of who might be seeing it than anything really….and god forbid if someone wanted to pay for one I would want to get them a hi-res version… View this post on Google+

I have determined that I will be trying to take at least a bit of time each night to learn new things or refresh skills in photography. The next 4 days will be filled with a huge refresher from +Trey Ratcliff and his online seminar… Honestly I am one that jumps onto things and comes back to the basics, it is high time I reinforce my basic photography knowledge to hopefully make me a much better photographer overall… View this post on Google+

Just a reminder to get in on this upcoming online seminar this week if you have not yet signed up. I know many have differing opinions on Trey, but as one who has taken an online seminar – I have to say it was very well done and I still refer back to the materials to this day.  I plan on re-learning and refreshing a ton based on this one… also I am all for learning how others do things to better my own performance…. Reshared post from +Brent Burzycki I highly recommend these trainings +Trey Ratcliff does online – Especially for the beginner, thou any semi pro or pro could get great info from them also I took the HDR tutorial and not only did I learn a ton (I had never shot one HDR before the online seminar) but I made cool friends and still have copies of the tutorial to reference. I do not shoot everyday and I forget a ton of things, to be able to shoot back into the seminar and refresh my memory is worth the money alone. Right now you and a friend can sign up for the class for a special price, I am actually […]
