So first thing to say is I have been using Dual monitors for a long time, so long that when I try to get work done on a single monitor I feel I am easily half as productive. I implemented dual monitors in my office at work and now no employee would have it any other way. It was the cheapest way to increase productivity I have found in business. All of that said, this monitor is very large but it is not at all the same experience that using dual monitors gives you. Many things change when you replace dual monitors with a large single. For me I have replaced (at least for the time being) two Dell U2412m – So 2 – 24" monitors replaced by one 34". The curve that is a huge piece of this monitor is interesting but really it is also slightly annoying when used for a work environment – but for movies and games it is quite nice to have the "more immerse feel" to the monitor. Here is something else you need to know before buying any new monitor these days. CHECK YOUR CONNECTORS – You might be amazed that many of […]
Oh the trouble that I can now get into…
We usually only write about Alabama-related things, so let’s just assume this took place aboard one of the Alabama-built Littoral Combat Ships. I was once on a US military ship, having breakfast in the wardroom (officers lounge) when the Operations Officer (OPS) walks in. This guy was the definition of NOT a morning person; he’s still half asleep, bleary eyed… basically a zombie with a bagel. He sits down across from me to eat his bagel and is just barely conscious. My back is to the outboard side of the ship, and the morning sun is blazing in one of the portholes putting a big bright-a** circle of light right on his barely conscious face. He’s squinting and chewing and basically just remembering how to be alive for today. It’s painful to watch. But then zombie-OPS stops chewing, slowly picks up the phone, and dials the bridge. In his well-known I’m-still-totally-asleep voice, he says ‘heeeey. It’s OPS. Could you… shift our barpat… yeah, one six five. Thanks.’ And puts the phone down. And then he just sits there. Squinting. Waiting. And then, ever so slowly, I realize that that big blazing spot of sun has begun to slide off the […]
NASA recently released a 1.5 billion pixel image of the Andromeda galaxy, our nearest galactic neighbor, which contains over 100 million stars and spans more than 40,000 light years – and that’s just a section of the galaxy. This image, created from a mosaic of 411 Hubble pictures, was then used by YouTuber daveachuk to create this incredible fly-through video. Combined with gorgeous music from the band Koda, it’s an awe-inspiring – and humbling – experience. #nasa #hubblespacetelescope

Everyone should read and chime in on this post from +Tamara Pruessner as I have seen this decline in G+ and it worries me and my continuing participation.. make sure to comment on her post…. and this one if you wish… Originally shared by +Tamara Pruessner New Day's Hope I have been doing a lot of thinking about how my main stream no longer shows everyone, or even a few and their newest posts, about how my own posts get increasingly smaller interaction, and how if my posts are doing that, then everyone's are. I think the algorithm that governs what we see and what others see of our own stuff has gotten too restrictive. And it frustrates me to no end – especially when I have 100 new posts in my stream and most are either 24 hours old, something I have already seen (and plussed or commented) or both. Fresh isn't happening anymore and it is FRUSTRATING. I don't normally notify anyone of my posts but for this, I am (and I am not even sure how many will get the notification – over 3500 in my circles). What I am proposing is an experiment of sorts. To […]
