This might be helpful to those buying photographers gifts this Holiday… http://lenshawk.com/ FAQ Where does this data come from? Almost all lens data come directly from the lens manufacturers' websites. Lens specifications change from time to time and some may have been recorded poorly, so please advise all data is provided "as is" – what's stated on the retailer's website is what applies. If you see an error then please help us by reporting it to christian@baymard.com. How accurate are your prices? Most prices are fetched from Amazon.com – for items where Amazon and the lens manufacturer doesn't allow us to display the price, the latest available price is shown instead. For this reason the only way to get a 100% accurate price for the lens is to check the retailer's price. How does this differ from just searching at Amazon? On Amazon you have a very narrow set of filtering options. E.g. you can't get something as simple as a list all macro lenses that fit on a, say, Nikon camera, you can only get a list of lenses made by Nikon (thereby not showing other compatible lenses from manufacturers such as Sigma and Tokina). How does this differ […]

#BTLcritique
Behind the Lens – Photo Critique Let's call this a critique of what you do with images that you want to make different…. or push your normal style…. What do you do? How do you experiment? Do your experiments work or are you turned off by others that do not like those experiments? Do you forge ahead and try to push your work and your styles and are you worried about making mistakes and sharing them out for the world to see? Also feel free to critique this experiment in styles….. View this post on Google+

#circleof1 – +Ricardo Williams – Follow his work……… So in another installment of the Circle of One I would like to introduce +Ricardo Williams to those in my circles. For those that do not know I have been doing a Circle of One interview with upcoming photographers and those established ones who's work I like or simply they are great community members here on G+ What types of photography do you shoot? Hi Brent, thanks for this interview. I shoot mainly portraiture, HDR, architecture and street photography. My portraits include boudoir, glamour and sensual photography along with regular portraiture i.e., family, groups, business, couples and singles. Why did you become a photographer? Photography kind of just came to me. I was usually the one in the group with the camera taking the photos. While doing this I wanted my photos to not only be photos, but good photos; even at random and casual events. My friends and colleagues started given me good comments and reviews on my photography which prompted me to study and take it more seriously. I enjoyed every second of it. Soon after that I got my first Semi- Professional Camera and a little over a year […]

Do you use a todo list or todo list tool – if so which ones and have you found a balance between project management and a todo list? List up what you use and we can put together a list for others… I have used several and none of them seem to do what I need them to do for all the lists I need to make….thou some are project related and that can make for more issues… What do you use? Do you like it or hate it? and does it actually make you get more done or do you spend way too much time admining the list… Do you require syncing across multiple platforms?Do you need to print your lists? Interesting
.. Open Source colorimeter….. Reshared post from +Richard Hughes For the past 3 weeks I've been working long nights on an open source colorimeter called the ColorHug. This is hardware that measures the colors shown on the screen and creates a color profile. Existing hardware is proprietary and 100% closed, and my hardware has a GPL bootloader, GPL firmware image and GPL hardware schematics and PCBs. It's faster than the proprietary hardware, and more importantly a lot cheaper. Making hardware does cost money, and I can't give the hardware away for free like I do my other software. I'm aiming to do an initial production run of 50 units, but I'm going to need some advanced orders just to make sure I don't get stuck with a lot of stock and no buyers. I'm offering a 20% discount on each unit, on the assumption the first users will be testing the firmware and reporting problems. If you want to support a cool open source project, I'm asking £48 for each unit, plus postage and packaging. There's a whole website http://www.hughski.com/ if you want to know more about the project, and there's even an newsletter if you don't need hardware, but […]

Do you or have you thought about using a site like Kickstarter.com to fund your Photo or artistic projects? I would love to start a site dedicated to photographers and similar artists where it works like Kickstarter and allows people to fund creative work or equipment purchases for artists that might never have been able to push their career forward could with donations or assistance from other photographers… Has anyone used Kickstarter to try to do this? Have you been successful? Would it need a different audience? Very interested in people's points of view on something like this… Maybe we can get the big guns involved…. +Colby Brown +Robert Scoble +Trey Ratcliff +Thomas Hawk +Lisa Bettany +Catherine Hall +Frederick Van Johnson et all.. What are your opinions? Would the ability for people to privately fund artistic projects be a good thing? Would it turn into a disaster? Would zero or limited payoff to the investor be acceptable? Much like Kickstarter selling your creative idea is a key part to most sussessful projects – this could help people hone their creative pitches and get support in the process.. So community – what do you think? This was spurred by the recent […]
