Look at all those hardpoints. It's a weapons system with wings. The gun is centerline, so the nose landing gear is off center. Really a monster machine. I'm happy to get to see her in CAS action at least weekly. Those pilots have heavy nards that clang.
This plane was specifically built to counter Soviet tanks and armor. In the European area in case of a invasion into western Europe. It can take a beating and keep going like its predecessor the P 47 Thunderbolt.
I work at an air to ground range where they come and play regularly. Mostly CAS, as you can imagine, but also the hone their targeting skillz on our strafe pits, scored bullseye bomb targets, and lgb & jdam targets. I also pit them against my full-scale RC up-armored GMMWVs. You read that right. Sure they kill some, but occasionally I drive away to die another day.
