Well today was a somber reminder that as a photographer you can and will take photos…
Well today was a somber reminder that as a photographer you can and will take photos of things you only get once in a lifetime to take photos of and then the next day they are gone.. The tragic accident at Travis AFB today took the life of a great air show performer and one that the community will miss greatly. Although he was not active on the national air show circuit per his posted schedule, I assume everyone in the community knew of his years of service as an air show performer. These accidents hit close to home for me for several reasons – One is I love Air Shows and have enjoyed them since I was kid. The second is our involvement with a company Whelen Engineering Company, Inc. that supports Air Show performers like Mike Goulian Airshows these past years. And three my dad was in the Air Force and to see these shows return with the military demo teams is something that makes me feel less bad about where my tax money is going. Hopefully people understand or have time to talk to the men and women that put on these shows and perform in them, […]

Well I knew eventually it would come to this
you cannot go to airshows and not expect to ever see tragedy or record the last perfect execution of the stunt that ended up taking a performers life. This will be the last photo I get to take of this plane and this pilot based on today's crash at Travis AFB and the Thunder over Solano airshow. The details were minimal at best – searching here for #thunderoversolano  and #travisAFB  brought up a few that witnessed the crash but the show was cancelled post crash and people were asked to leave. It appears the victim was: Eddie Andreini from www.eddieandreiniairshows.com A huger loss for the air show community. Hopefully he like many others I have talked to that fly for a living and for the fans died doing the one thing he loved and would have had it no other way. RIP #aircrash   #airshow   #airshowphotography   #airshowcrash   This post has been reshared 2 times on Google+ View this post on Google+

Well this is probably going to be tragic news
Biplane crashes at Thunder over Solano Airshow at Travis AFB, CA TRAVIS AFB, Calif. — A biplane that was performing at an air show at Travis Air Force Base Sunday afternoon crashed on the tarmac while executing a maneuver, according to eye witnesses. KTVU reporter John Sasaki was attending the air show and reported the accident shortly after 2 p.m. when the biplane crashed to the tarmac at the air base. KTVU photographer Chris Paxton later learned the blue biplane was flying close to the ground executing a maneuver known as "cutting the ribbon" when the crash happened. The crash did not happen near spectators, so there were no injuries reported initially. A Travis Airforce Base spokesperson confirmed that there had been an accident during the Thunder Over Solano air show being held this weekend and that emergency vehicles were responding to the incident. There is no word so far on the condition of the pilot. He has reportedly not been accounted for. Authorities announced that the airshow was cancelled at about 2:20 p.m. Attendees were being asked to exit the facility and roads into the base were being closed. KTVU will provide additional updates as information becomes available I […]

Well the 2014 Travis AFB Air Show was quite good
..minus the 40mph crosswind and the sun burn I did not even know I got because of the wind, I assume I will be screaming all night… BUT finally getting out to take some more photos was a great change of pace… This is one of the shots from today.. just the start of the over 1200 images I shot today to try to make up for the months of not shooting… Not as cool as the stuff +Dale Jackson does with pens and pencils, but was going for something different…. guess I will see how that works out with the masses here… Lockheed P-80 Shooting StarJet fighterThe Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star was the first jet fighter used operationally by the United States Army Air Forces.
