this is the ME-109. Germany's best fighter of WW2. They made more ME-109's than any other plane during the war. It was used in every battle the Germans participated in. Some of the pilots called it a flying coffin. But WW2 aces that flew the ME-109, like Guther Rall who had 275 victories and Adolf Galland who had over 700 combat missions to his resume. Incredible pilots. There were a couple of other fighters that Germany used but came a little to late in the war. The Folker Wulf 190 and the first jet fighter/bomber the ME-262.
The plane is a Stuka dive bomber, the Junkers Ju 57! There is a comment below by someone extolling the virtues of the Me 209 (sic). There was no such aircraft. It was designated the Bf109.
