Is this real? Does the drive shaft for the propeller run through the pilots legs? Just seems like a flying coffin.

Plane is real only flew in the last 3 months. They built a replica of it and it flew. Sadly though gear gave way on landing but they plan to fix it fly it again.

Prop drive shaft to propella ? Pilot must sit on it . !!

+John Rambo Prop shafts on the new replica that flew are actually flex type around pilot. Doubt it was on original.

+JETimmons gear didn't give way. Brake failed and by the time he got it stopped it nosed over and damaged prop. They haven't done anything but high speed taxi and "short hop" tests last I heard. But, it did fly!

I read that it would've been a game changer if the Germans got their hands on it. The Brits would have never won the dog-fights simply because this plane is far more superior than the Spitfire. The Germans had a huge manufacturing capacity and can make thousands planes in just a year.
I think the person who hid this plane saved the world from Nazi occupation.

+Mike LeTourneau I'm just having a hard time envisioning how the propeller worked being so close to what looks like the cockpit. The engine is in the back correct?

Many pretty things are hard to make work right… And that's why design and engineering are so hard to do well..

Look at the P38 Bell Aircobra – similar layout. But this has an incredibly futuristic look.

It would not be out of place in a air show today. Amazing industrial design!

take the prop off the front, make it a pusher
