Don't know but often wondered that myself. My guess is that there would have to be a separate license agreement to distribute the lyrics rather than the recording alone, but that seems to me something that could be hammered out – by lots and lots of lawyers and accountants.
Good point. Considering that ID3 supports embedded lyrics as well.
