Interesting design. I wonder how it's maneuverability is. And if it's stronger in that design

I jet with a similar design would be interesting too

If the props get damaged they could penetrate the cockpit which would be bad

Looks like a re-imagining of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning. Is this a Rutan/Scaled Composites design?

If I had the money to have a one off plane built, it would be by Scaled Composites.

Bob pond. 2 x 300zx engines. The plane was a death trap..

This plane at the time was a radical design for the Reno air races. It had teething problems. Engines were a major problem they kept overheating. When it did fly it was fast. It did crash and the design was givin up on.

IMO the wings need to be slightly longer and have a greater sweep but more of a Delta, but what do I know I'm not an aerospace engineer

Yep this is a Scaled Comp design – that guy is pretty much the Hughes of todays world…

+Brent Burzycki I have an idea for a one off plane design I'd like Scaled Composites to build, A modern version of a P-39 Airacobra with a similar wing planform as the Pond racer, with a longer span, a two seat cockpit, and rear mounted turboshaft engine running a forward mounted six bladed prop similar to the design of the ones used on the C-130J's.

+Timothy Baskett that might be considered – partially insane…. 🙂
