    It is OK for me from the U.K. (including when i hit the page using "https everywhere")
    The download section is not using an SSL certificate normally, so, if no one else is seeing that either, I would guess that you have some "overactive" virus protection, or some strange settings in your browser.

    +Neil Howard Does not work in Chrome or IE – Error in chrome says:

    This webpage is not available
    The webpage at https://swdlp.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/SoftwareDownloadApp.woa/wa/getProductData?localang=en_us&grp_code=itunes&returnURL=http://www.apple.com/itunes/download&isMiniiFrameReq=N might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
    Error 501 (net::ERR_INSECURE_RESPONSE): Unknown error.

    Bizarre.. now its working again in IE.. but not chrome.. hmmm.. they must have known I need a copy of the terrible software…..

    It depends what you want it for,,, to simply sync the Ipod there is Rythmbox, for playing music I actually use subsonic (subsonic.org) , which allows me to stream music (and video) anywhere (including on the ipod) – Although I avoid using the ipod touch for much other than an ebook reader now a days..
