Hmm then maybe it is only to push more plus ones into the stream….. Or to give at least one plus one to a post you reshare…. I would think the reshare is enough of a + 1…..
I have a feeling a "top request" was to have a +1 option in the stream and sharing right after you +1 something is just a natural "next step" if you will.
It's just a design issue. It looks like the want the stream to be very clean with as few buttons as possible. Like +Neil Lund said if you open the post itself then the re-share button is right there on the top.

Only if you want to be able to share it directly from your stream. If you open the post, you don't need to +1 it to share it

Some good changes and some that are kind of strange changes……. Ui design is always full of compromise it seems…
