+Brent Burzycki Yup…that'll do it. Does it for me every time.

  2. John De Bord 16 Oct 2012 Reply

well the problem is that if you select which circles to share a post with, you will get these sorts of notifications. IMHO this is a bug more than anything.

  3. Tamara Pruessner 16 Oct 2012 Reply

Yup… he was doing that to me too.  I just want to scream, "quit clicking that little 'Also send email to circle' button" unless you have something that you know I will be interested in.  UGH.

  4. Eustace James 16 Oct 2012 Reply

This hasn't really happened to me so much. Although there's this: my settings are configured to allow only those in my circles to send me notifications.  It may be that your preferences or requirements are different, but for me, it cuts way down on notification spam.  And … I've written a ton of email filters so that most everything bypasses my inbox.

  5. you can mute that person that way he can still see your content, but can't annoy you with notifications.

  6. Joe McDonald 16 Oct 2012 Reply

I second +michael interbartolo's recommendation.  I've had to do that to a few people recently who just seem to enjoy public spamming of their posts.

  7. Jeremy Cupp 16 Oct 2012 Reply

    Damn. Lol.

  8. Brent Burzycki 16 Oct 2012 Reply

Ok – so we can clear this up for everyone.. (Mainly me)

If you click the check box it will give you a notification like above

If you do not but you share to a specific circle and not public it will give a notification like above..

As in it will state – blank user have shared direct with you.. even thou it is listed as public and not limited on the share notification?

    That seems wrong somehow?

  9. Stefan Haworth 16 Oct 2012 Reply

+Brent Burzycki I haven't been sending anyone notifications right? I can't stand that spammyness, hate if I was in the past

  10. Elizabeth Hahn 16 Oct 2012 Reply

oh wow.  One share I give a pass, but 5, no.  Especially for a post like that.

  11. Brent Burzycki 16 Oct 2012 Reply

I think most of this happens because people do nto know its actually happening….because notifications, at least in my opinion, really needs some changes…

I fear to use G+ as a messaging platform because I am worried I will miss stuff… as in important person to person messaging that I actually need to see…

If the G+ team would get notifications to work a bit better and I would know it will show up and I will not miss it I could really start using it for what I sadly have to use Facebook for – because private messages are physically broken out..

I have no issues with sending a direct message to someone… Like

+Brian Rose to just talk to Brian lets say – but then I think locking of that post for no reshare should be default possibly to limit the possible spread of that post that needs to be private.

Also a separate way to see just private message.. or very limited posts.. and trust me I know there are a 1000 ways to do this and 20000 people that want it done different, but even if it was a tab that might work…

Or a private messages tab inside the notifications panel..?

    It is hard to say..

  12. Elizabeth Hahn 16 Oct 2012 Reply

Yeah I know.  It's hard when you are trying to message someone privately and you don't know how they have their notifications set up.  You might be in a circle they choose to see notifications for, or you might not.  Unless they are a good friend, you really don't know.  🙁

  13. Brent Burzycki 16 Oct 2012 Reply

+elizabeth hahn yes its a big issue to have too many options in some cases because many people tend to not actualyl try to understand how the services work and in turn get all bent out of shape..

  14. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

damn.. I never knew.. ok.  I'll stop sharing all those nudes directly with you.  My bad…..  🙁

  15. Ralph Mendoza 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I got an album of p0rn a few days ago. Blocked that person right away

  16. Bette Kauffman 17 Oct 2012 Reply

    Exactly.

  17. Steve Savoie 17 Oct 2012 Reply

Same happened to me a couple of times !  Blocked them right away too.

  18. Brent Burzycki 17 Oct 2012 Reply

    Wait there is porn here….

  19. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

sounds better than what I have on TV.  It's always dangerous leaving it on and not paying attention for a few hours.

  20. Brent Burzycki 17 Oct 2012 Reply

As in whoops skinimax is on?

  21. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

lmao nooo well there were lumberjacks…  but it was a showing how to cut down a tree.  With an ax.  No power tools allowed.

  22. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

    no power tools  …….. O.o

  23. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

it was a BIG tree too +Sandra Parlow ….  O.o

  24. Ralph Mendoza 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I only needed to see one picture
not the whole album before hitting block

  25. Brent Burzycki 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I am not really worried about porn… but I dislike my notifications destroyed by specific things that I like to get but might not absolutely need to see… +1's are one of them, I like to get them, but they are not in any way as important than a private note from a close friend…

so how to moderate all notifications to make sure you see the most important is very important..

  26. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I agree, Brent.  It would be nice to have messages separate from notifications…

  27. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I'm flattered by the +1 bombers but it does kill notifications until they are done.

I do have certain types of comments (mentions of me by name, etc) go to email.  It's not perfect, but it does make it easier to find a post I may have missed..

  28. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

    I do the same +elizabeth hahn !

  29. Brent Burzycki 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I do also then I look at the emails and there are 300 a day and I just dump them… I am not sure how to solve it but I need to know my message to a friend is read and I need to know I get their messages…

I hate to say it but facebook does this pretty well… god I said it… I am sorry..

  30. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

    whooot1  *high-fives*  Maybe I learned from you 🙂

  31. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

Do you allow notifications from eveyone +Brent Burzycki ?

  32. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

yeah – it can really jam the inbox up, but what else can we do?

  33. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

The nice thing is it's easier to sort in the inbox, and flag for later.  Not that I'm that organized, but it is possible.

  34. Brent Burzycki 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I think only from people I have circled… But probably not since this guy share bombed me… And he was not circled, and that said I need to look again…

  35. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

First I go through a lightening round of "delete the spam"
and then I go a quick round of delete the repeats…
and that narrows it down pretty quickly

  36. Eustace James 17 Oct 2012 Reply

Write some email filters, keyed to the language in the specific notifications you want to receive.  They can bypass your Gmail inbox and get dumped into a specific folder for later review.

  37. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I do have all G+ emails go to it's own folder.  I haven't been more specific than that.

  38. Brent Burzycki 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I bypass the in box if I did not my in box would suffer utter destruction daily….

  39. Sanjay Mehrotra 17 Oct 2012 Reply

+Sandra Parlow, the very purpose of having a common notification was to reduce the gap between one to one messages and messaging to a large number of people. Can't we manage our notifications in such a way that we receive notifications only when both A and B are true:

    A. posts are shared by x,y,z circles only

    AND

    B. posts are not public

  40. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

Although gmail does already sort by circles for you too.

  41. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I dont use GMail.. I use Yahoo ducks and shouts "THERE IS A GOOD REASON FOR THAT!

  42. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

    omg +Sandra Parlow !  🙂

  43. Brent Burzycki 17 Oct 2012 Reply

Not likely please explain this "reason"….

  44. Eustace James 17 Oct 2012 Reply

Does Gmail sort by circles?  I've never noticed … people in my circles don't send me email.

Either way, +Sandra Parlow … even if you use Yahoo, you can still create filters, I would think.

  45. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I would be MORE than happy to use GMail – IF IT WORKED!!  but it doesn't….   🙁

  46. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

that's way above my pay grade +Eustace James …

  47. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

Yes +Eustace James – it sorts email notifications by circles too.

So I guess you could create a circle of "People I Never Want To Miss" and put them there.  There is also the Subscribe feature, but then you'd get notified of EVERY post they make.

  48. Eustace James 17 Oct 2012 Reply

Really?  Gmail doesn't work for you?  I have most of my other email accounts forwarding to Gmail … and my work account is managed by Google.

  49. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I have allmy settings here set to go to GMail.. but it just won't go.  All I get are you tube sub updates and G+ journals – but no notifications or anything

  50. Eustace James 17 Oct 2012 Reply

+elizabeth hahn Holy shit. I could totally stalk people like this. I've never opened this Circles tab up before.

I'm gonna be so evil that it's not even funny.

  51. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

Did you anger the GMail deities, +Sandra Parlow ?

+Eustace James bahahahaha – I do use the stalk notifiy thingy on Chrysta Rae as a trial thing during the Scavenger hunt.  If you turned that on for Everyone you would go insane!

  52. Eustace James 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I did that from GMail, +Sandra Parlow.  Rather than forwarding mail to my GMail account, I set Gmail up to retrieve mail from my other accounts. It works online and it syncs with my iPhone.

  53. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

    not that I know of!

  54. Eustace James 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I did the same thing, +elizabeth hahn. 😀

  55. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

sigh it's too complicated.. I just dont' get it 🙁

  56. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

  60. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

+elizabeth hahn  it scares me that someone actually made that.. O.o

  61. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I DO have a GMail addy +Brent Burzycki .. but it is broken..

    ok – long story, short:

    had yahoo
    set up gmail
changed all my settings to send notifications to gmail
    didn't work
    checked it
    double checked it
    asked for help
    people tried to help me
    still broken
even though all my settings are set to send to Gmail – mail still goes to Yahoo.
    I quit.

Plus, Yahoo mail works great for me.  I get my messages ;P

  62. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

It made me laugh!  Someone sent me I am cow which made me hope there was a Moose equivalent.  Silly Canadian band singing about cows and moose!

  63. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

    Good Lord…   LOL!!

  64. Brent Burzycki 17 Oct 2012 Reply

simple solution +Sandra Parlow start all over… erase everything… get new gmail – start all over on g+ – problem solved…..

    well kind of 🙂

That is strange it does not work – I mean you can get emails to the gmail acct right? – it just will not receive your yahoo mails?

I forward like 10 accts to gmail from many services and they all seem to make it – I use my gmail acct to kill all my spam…

  65. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

I don't want my yahoo emails to go there.. I want my G+ notifications to go there….

I've used my yahoo for 14 years…..  and I have no desire to leave it… but it would be nice if my G+ were separate from the rest of my "normal" emails.

The funny thing is that I get You Tube subscription updates on my GMail, and i get the occasional "what's happening in G+ emails.. but not my notifications..

  66. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

+Sandra Parlow have you tried this to change the email associated with your G+ account?  https://accounts.google.com/b/0/EditUserInfo

  67. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

yep – gmail is listed as my primary account – but it doesn't work.

  68. Brent Burzycki 17 Oct 2012 Reply

so its like your gmail and G+ are not connected?

    Now that is strange…

  69. Elizabeth Hahn 17 Oct 2012 Reply

    oh. I'm out of ideas…

  70. Sandra Parlow 17 Oct 2012 Reply

yep.. it's all just You Tube updates and the occasional "top three google posts" type crap…
