What purpose does this particular apparatus serve?  I fear the small print at the bottom is too small for me to read.

It's a seriously heavy duty steel cable winch

This is a specialized communications truck for interoperability operations for fire services. A single unit test bed to link multiple department's on different radio frequencies to be able to work together more easily….. It is compact to get I to more areas… As I know it it was built as a test bed for new equipment and operations.

Yeah, I got that much.  What I'm wondering is what reason this brigade has to need such a seriously heavy-duty winch.  Not that I doubt they do, I'm just curious.  (Ohare Towing has some recovery units that even outclass this beast, so it's not like there isn't a need for such equipment.)

+Kelly Martin Well winches are sized based on the overall weight of the truck, then usually doubled based on when you are stuck in mud or snow it can cause massive issues in recovery of the vehicle.. vehicles like this have a bad tendency to slide of roads becase of weight and the fact you cannot stop them easily…

Thus massive winch… Also in many cases demonstration vehicles tend to be using the best and biggest to draw attention at shows and when in use to prompt more interest and sales for new tech…
