I live right outside Tinker AFB and they occasionally fly in. Several times right over my house. Photos cannot do it justice…it is a very large plane! And just too damn sexy!
I've brought this up before and never got a good answer. Does anybody else remember back in the 70s when they were saying that the B-52s would be falling from the sky soon due to metal fatigue and there was nothing we could do about it? This was used as justification for building the B1 and B2.
Now, I think modernizing the bomber fleet is a good thing, but do they have to misrepresent the situation to make this happen?
I don't know but the last time I heard the Stratoforts were supposed to stay in service till something like 2040. That's an awful long lifespan for something that was supposed to fall out of the sky in the '70's.
+Timothy Baskett I've heard that there have been improvements in metal inspection and remediation, but I also think they were trying hard to sell new planes.

The best looking bomber since the B-58 Hustler. The B-1B Lancer.
It's a nice plane when gets airborne. Problem is getting it airborne. Usually have backups to 1 flight
I hear about it. The original order was cut way back because of problems and the supposed superiority of the B2, so there aren't many of them.

When I worked at ellsworth afb. They needed 2 spare aircraft to get 1 to fly. Not sure how it is now but it is impressive once it's airborne

Saw this puppy in action at the Australian International Airshow right here in (or near) Melbourne a couple of years ago. Amazing beast.

So fast and so loud at low level flight pilots of it have been know to low pass a target and the target just runs away in fear…
