FitBit Give-A-Way

03 Feb 2012 admin In G+ Posts Tags: ,

Do not know what a FitBit is you can read about my experience on my site:

http://www.burzycki.org/2012/02/02/my-fitbit-story/

So here is the story on why I am giving away one……. It's simple to expose more to a product that is currently helping me and many of my friends get into better shape every day. Being healthy is very hard to attain…. take it from me a guy that has battled chronic issues for most of his adult life from gut issues to neck pain issues etc… Taking the time to get in shape sometimes takes motivation we do not have at the end of the day and for some the Fitbit will and can be that motivating factor. This comes from others that have them and the support network or simply from your friends that might have one and can harass you endlessly till you get off the couch.

How do you qualify to win the thing… it's simple… reshare this post and tag it with #fitbitgivaway – then post a comment in this thread about why you want one…. It can be simple or long and drawn out… This is also a great way to find out more about others with possibly the same goals here on G+….

People like +Sharon Strandskov are great people to follow if you are interested in tech and health topics.. she has a write up on FitBit also you should check out…

You do not need to follow me but if you like photography or talking about technology maybe I am worth adding to a circle. And I know I am more interactive than many of the big names on here.. but look for yourself at my older posts and follow if you want… it is not required.

The give-a-way starts today and will run till next Sunday the 12th of Feb. – then I will randomly pick a winner out of the posts on this thread.. if for some reason the thread fills up I will create another thread and the give-a-way will continue… or I will possibly just give-away another one… I know this audience is international and I will ship it international as long as the costs are not totally out of hand…or we can work out something based on friends in the states that can take items for you etc… International shipping is expensive and customs is a pain…

I also want to extend an option for those that might want to buy one and do not care about this give-a-way.. Use the link below – it is an affiliate link yes I know but here is the deal… If you use the link, any proceeds I get from the sales will go right back into more give-a-ways and this circle will continue..

I want to be transparent on this one but this is the only way I could think of to try to help keep the give-a-ways going…..

Feel free to voice your hate for the idea or comment and get included to possibly be the new owner of one of these very cool devices…

Here is the link:

http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?B=286239&U=578316&M=31379&urllink=
It is legit – it just links via the affiliate site to the fitbit site…

People here should know me well enough that I do not post many if any links for affiliate sales..and if I do I tell you about it… this one thou could benefit many here if people buy through it…

As you can see by the photo I carry mine as a money clip so I do not forget it… As you can tell by the dollar in it – I am not here to get rich…

#fitbit

Last if you have a FitBit now – let us all know – I know I am looking for people to put me to shame daily….๏ปฟ

    Ok Brent – I'll play!

    This is intriguing!

I've been on a mission to improve my health as well and in the last year I've done a LOT of walking to try to get fit. I've managed to lose one pants size since last spring and although during the winter months I don't get as much walking in, (I'm doing other things) I'm anxious for spring to come so that I can get back out there more often again!

My body does not seem to want to be a smaller size… but I'm fighting it. Most of my father's side of the family died from heart disease and it's time for me to get serious about being healthy!

+Brent Burzycki +Sandra Parlow would just use it when going after moose. I would clip it in the center of my wallet and carry it always.

Shared! I actually am interested in something that can help me recover from the heart attacked I suffered in late December. I was lucky, as the blockage was in the "Widowmaker" – 90% don't survive that one.

I'm a Type A, go-go-go type of guy who now can get winded shaving, having lost 40% of my heart function. I'm trying to figure out ways to determine if I;m getting stronger and to be able to analyze it. All the rest of the lifestyle changes are coming along – diet, stress relief, weight. But I'm also a bit of an analysis geek, and would love to be able to see numbers that reflect my fitness – and be able to show my docs how I'm doing…

I like it. How much do they run normally? Have an Android app?

  5. Brent Burzycki 3 Feb 2012 Reply

99.95 and their mobile site works great on android…no app yet thou…maybe this will force them to make one….

  6. Sandra Parlow 3 Feb 2012 Reply

ohhh… my little +Chris Sewell , what ever shall I do with you? Oh.. I know…. but I'll just keep it to myself until the time is right….

  7. Chris Sewell 3 Feb 2012 Reply

+Colby Brown +Brent Burzycki an Android app would be pretty awesome

  8. Brent Burzycki 3 Feb 2012 Reply

I would think if this give a way gets some traction and with so many android users here…..it could be motivational……

  9. Chris Sewell 3 Feb 2012 Reply

    +Brent Burzycki indeed. Especially if there were little mini-games to make reaching a goal more interactive and fun for people. Plenty of possibilities.;

  10. Bruce Feingold 3 Feb 2012 Reply

Great idea +Brent Burzycki I'd love to have one to help remind me to get up and do something instead of just sitting in front of a computer all day. Also, the sleep component looks pretty interesting. Thanks.

+Paul Leonard wonder just how hard it would be to get the data off of the fitbit and on to the phone. When I saw +Dobie Wollert's fitbit it connected to the computer by clipping in to a dock. Does it also do wireless? We must find this out… for science!

  12. Dobie Wollert 6 Feb 2012 Reply

+Chris Sewell It also talks wirelessly to the same base station. Unfortunately it's not a standard wireless technology like bluetooth or wifi.

  13. Brent Burzycki 6 Feb 2012 Reply

+Dobie Wollert Am i wrong is also thinking it can connect to an iPhone via their Iphone app? so you do no need the base station…

  14. Chris Sewell 6 Feb 2012 Reply

    +Brent Burzycki via their site:

Will the app upload my Fitbit tracker data through my phone?
No. You can use your phone to log activities like walking, yoga, or weight lifting, but steps and activity measured by your Tracker still have to be uploaded via plugging the Fitbit base station into your computer. The app displays your last sync time so you always know how recent your stats are.

  15. Brent Burzycki 6 Feb 2012 Reply

+Chris Sewell that is bizarre as I swear the girl in our office is uploading data via her phone.. maybe it was just a total coincidence based on her app use and luck of the base hitting the fitbit – I upload all mine via wireless to the base I only plug it in to charge once a week..

  16. Chris Sewell 6 Feb 2012 Reply

+Brent Burzycki +Dobie Wollert is it possible to have multiple users for a single fitbit? Would be cool to be able to share this between my fiancee +Kayla Hess and I. We have alternating sleep schedules for the most part so she's rather active during the morning and i'm active during the afternoon / night. Or is it better to just grab a second fitbit? Kinda worried about it turning in to a battle of who walked more steps, but I guess that wouldn't be such a bad thing after-all now would it?

  17. Brent Burzycki 6 Feb 2012 Reply

+Chris Sewell I do not think so.. it would just be tracked as one user….

  18. Very cool product ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks for this offer +Brent Burzycki

  19. Very kind offer. Shared. And why? To save my life. I'm doing what I can and I'm down ten pounds so far. 90 to go. Yeah, I know. Awful and sad.

    Cause I'm a fat ass.

  21. Benji Hertel 11 Feb 2012 Reply

Well for starters I'm a fat man that had a seizure and needs to shape up. Secondly I'm a nerd and this might help me do so. Third I am in dire need of a money clip. Now I'm off to read up on your gnex case/battery review ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Ian Lake 11 Feb 2012 Reply

I've really enjoyed my Fitbit since I got it about a month ago (http://www.fitbit.com/user/22G86V) and just got my first 30k steps in a day badge just last week. If not anything else, it has really motivated me to actually track what food I eat – being able to add new food to their database or make 'meals' to handle homemade recipes has really been quite enjoyable compared to previous attempts using different products.

  23. Derek De La Cruz 11 Feb 2012 Reply

A great way to encourage to lose some weight…. plus Im a fat man. ๐Ÿ™‚

  24. Scott Matthew 11 Feb 2012 Reply

+Brent Burzycki I hope whoever you send it to it helps them get to a place in life they're triying to reach. Having been that highly analytical, high strung, type A+ personality and suffered the medical consequences of that anything that helps us reduce stress like exercise is a great thing. Something that can motivate us is even better! Sounds like a product I could use!

  25. Brock Norman 11 Feb 2012 Reply

This looks pretty cool. I'm trying to get my blood pressure under control and lose some weight. Gotta get healthy for my kids. This looks like a perfect tool to help me do that.

  26. Michael Perkins 11 Feb 2012 Reply

I had a heart attack in 2008. I have lost 75 pounds since then and always looking for ways to keep track of my health and fitness. I am also trying to be a role model for others. This would be a great tool. Thanks for the opportunity +Brent Burzycki .

  27. Sam Gilley 11 Feb 2012 Reply

I'm kind of interested… as a kitchen manager I am on my feet all day. I am curious about my pedometrics!

  28. Ray Walters 11 Feb 2012 Reply

Well, as a writer and a chef, I have a lethal combination. I write all day, then cook and eat. My weight is becoming a large issue (no pun intended), and I would like to change that, drastically. I have children, and it pains me when I can't interact with them sometimes because of my weight.

  29. Sam Gilley 11 Feb 2012 Reply

I had the same issue {[(except the writing part) well… I write, but not that much] and likely for good reason considering the ridiculousness of this extended parenthetic}. But, I got myself back int the gym about 8 months ago and it has really changed my whole world. I have only lost about 30 pounds, but I am exponentially stronger now than I was. I recover faster now from things as ridiculous as getting out of bed the wrong way.

I have a way to go, but becoming aware of my physical condition was step one, doing something about it was step two and now there are the steps of keeping it going and measuring my success! I have five kids age 4 to 14 so I know what you mean. And I have worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years so I know what being around all that food and beer can do to a body. I'll just say this about getting fit later in life… it can be done. +Ray Walters I hope you get the change you want in your life!

  30. I'd like to try and see if it works with the metric system already. We've had a similar low tech solution here recently, of which I'm not sure this is familiar to people in the US in this form: a 'step counter'. Basically a little gizmo with a battery and a little mechanical system and an old-style LCD. It only counts your steps, approximately. These devices have even been government funded.

  31. Ok, I see you'd call it a 'pedometer' perhaps.

  32. Brent Burzycki 11 Feb 2012 Reply

+Pieter-Jan Vandormael Yes – pedometer – interesting it is Government funded…. is that a health program?

This is a pedometer on steroids….

  33. Rob Koehler 11 Feb 2012 Reply

My girlfriend has one and loves it. It looks like a good way to get me to start being active again…..and I need a new money clip. Sounds like an overall win ๐Ÿ™‚

  34. +Brent Burzycki It's funded by the government through the obliged semi-public-semi-private health care providers/insurances. The things cost only a few euros.

  35. Chris Sewell 11 Feb 2012 Reply

Re-reshared in hopes of bringing more attention. Looks like it's working o/

Also, +Benji Hertel lives in Chicago and takes public transit all day every day. This /would/ be pretty cool for him to have IMO.

I work in a call center, about as sedentary as it gets. I'm taking a promotion to a floor support position with no real perks just because it will be more challenging. This would certainly help me feel like there is some perk to floor support.

Dunno why it's not getting more attention. Fitbits look pretty awesome. shrug

I know a couple of people who have them. It's not a product I heard about before Christmas, but I see it more and more.

Motivation, data collection, and interaction. There's a lot of capability from such a small thing, isn't there?

+Brent Burzycki best chance of winning for any contest i've ever participated in, and that's even with the two of us resharing it multiple times. Really not sure why there wasn't more participation. Unlike other contests which have 50 steps for you to take to actually be entered this only required the clicking of the mouse twice… shrug
