Ah the file transfer agony when moving to a new machine

    Why not leave your files on your NAS then you can switch your end-machine as much as you want and never have to copy stuff over? I effectively do this with a second hard drive. I keep all my data files on my second hard drive, so if I wipe the machine clean I don't need to copy them, I just reinstall programs.

    I always keep two local sets – one for backup and faster working files…. then I back up the NAS online also…

    If memory serves me right XXCOPY is a good way to copy huge number of smallish files fast.
