Well seeing I missed out on a photowalk recentaly becase my life got in the way of remembering details like the date….I assume i am not alone….. Here is a possible solution to this…

I do say possible because really groups here on G+ would be much better.. that said if you are interested in being included in discusisons about upcoming photowalks jump over to:

http://www.group.as/photowalks/

And sign up – hopefully there will be some re-sharing of this to get the word out.. as this seems to be the first PhotoWalk related list out there…

Maybe I can count on +Thomas Hawk +Trey Ratcliff +Robert Scoble +Lisa Bettany +Brian Rose +Catherine Hall and the many other photowalkers out there to help to get the word out…

The users can then decide the best way to be notified and we can see how we can make that happen.

+Eric Dale +Lisa Lisa thanks for the re-shares…

I do wish G+ had an events function. You can sorta fake it with Google Calendar, but that only works if you know people's email. Doesn't work well for a broad invite.

Hey – do we have to add everyone on the group.as list for this to work?

  4. Brent Burzycki 4 Sep 2011 Reply

+elizabeth hahn Yep its an issue…… not good to have to use other sites to tie it all together when your information would be more secure under one roof…or at least a bit easier…

Yeah.. Or at least get the auto import to a circle app. I have found it I don't enter something into calendar right away, I forget. And I have it pop up and remind me, send me an email, everything flag I could possibly make, I set. I think that means I'm getting old.

I put in a request the other day to be able to import a CSV (comma separated value) file of name + profile ID, or at least the ability to import a set of profile IDs into a circle. I haven't heard back so more people suggesting it might help.

+Olav Folland don;t they have an upload / import tool? I think I remember seeing one in the circles tab.. or are you talking about the group/as site?

The circles tool will let you import an address book – so if you had everyone's email addresses I suppose you could make something work. I'd rather not impose on people's privacy and just import a batch of profile numbers – really, it's the main reason I haven't gotten into the critique circles. I don't have the day or so it would take to set up the circle 😛

+Olav Folland there is a much easier way to build up your critique circle… just make one and drag all your photographers list into it… honestly 90% of the are now on the critique list.. sadly even without a "critique circle" I still would be sharing my work I would like critiques on with those same people….

I would hope the photographers that follow me and I follow – about 3000 right now will not mind seeing a post from me asking for a critique… if they do then I probably do not want to follow them or help them…

I'm in the mid-500's as far as circles go, and I quite honestly get very little 'photographer' feedback. Not sure if I've hit the right eyes, or I'm too diverse, or just don't quite hit the right buttons, or what. I'm not whining, I just figure I'm either not quite doing something right, or I haven't hit some sort of critical mass.

+Olav Folland more critiques do come with population density of the circle you share with….

or the photo content….quality, topic, subject matter etc …

I have seen terrible photos get no critiques and good shots get nothing…

Then i see others that erupt into 50 comments …. I think I am slightly lucky in that most of my stuff tends to be sexy in nature and that gets free eyeballs… then the comments can go all sideways with discussion about any number of items… that said I like discussion of any kind..

What I know I do not want to see is people lose interest in critiquing becase they get no critiques in return… that would be a problem in my eyes…. and why I tend to try to critique a few a day… but there is no way I can keep up…..and would never be expected too..

Thus why population density is key….

  12. Olav Folland 4 Sep 2011 Reply

Thus is my problem – I've maybe – maybe 150 people that are really into photography. Who see what I post? I don't know. The critique circles that are going around might give me enough critical mass to know what I'm missing. Or not missing. But, I really don't have the day or two that's necessary to set up one of the published circles right now. :/

  13. Brent Burzycki 4 Sep 2011 Reply

+Olav Folland so the real question is are you missing something… or is that day or two better spent not worrying about it….

    Bring on shared circles……

  14. Olav Folland 4 Sep 2011 Reply

Indeed, +Brent Burzycki. I don't worry about it too much 🙂

hmmm.. tried to add my name to the group list and couldn't easily. feels a bit clunky to me and not sure really how to monitor or the value or point, seemed to lack any interactivity, but maybe I'm just not getting it. you can message all of these people at once or something through g+? I'm slow sometimes. 🙂

+Thomas Hawk I wish I knew of a better way…. this seemed to work for the critique circle… I would love to see a better way to message a group, but not have to leave the confines of G+ to do it.. Thus opening a G+photowalks site would really go against the reason for us being here if we need to go there…

Having a circle where I could add people then someone like you who puts on photowalks could share to that circle and use the notify feature when you shared would put an actually dedicated notification to all of us that were interested in getting those updates..

I am all for trying a better way of seeing this information.. heck I would even like to see an email option that when there is a photowalk in my area it would notify me… I have to be missing something as I would be sure this is already being done somewhere – but all those places are outside of G+

I bet Google figures this out at some point. Groups or something that approximates them would be helpful for sure.

+Thomas Hawk I can only hope…… Did we not used to have Google Groups…. I feel a melding coming on….

Maybe G squared can step up their game. I feel like G+ is making all of Google step up their game.

  20. Olav Folland 4 Sep 2011 Reply

Groups would be awesome. Another thing that would be really neat is if they enabled some sort of 'nearby' feature like the Droid phones have. So I could, for example, say 'hey, I'm coming to the Bay Area on xx date, who wants to meet up?' without spamming every photowalker on G+

yeah, I like nearby, I would use it in desktop mode. I also like being able ti define the zip code. Good idea.
