Yeah I knnow it really depends on your area what you see as far as patrol cars go. Where I'm from they have anything from your typical cruiser to great big pick-up trucks.

The old Crown Victoria is fine just will no longer pass new crash test standards – CHP uses over 400lbs of just communication and vehicle equipment – plus 4 officers and they are over load capacity of the vehicle… that's a major liability issue…thus this is the new vehicle..
