Great now I need to figure out how to un-root, restore, get the update and re-root the phone..
Of course this all happens the first week I try to root my phone…..

Ok – well here are some questions….. how do you apply an update after the root, and will that update kill all the changes I have made. Not fancy changes just simple ones like themes, desktop items etc….mainly the launcher..
Then if waiting is the key I assume the annoying pop up update message will just keep popping up saying to update OTA…
+Brent Fishman I am not running a new ROM – I just rooted it…removed the junk and applied a new theme….
Interesting did the Droid 3 already have Gingerbread?
+Nick Young-Soares My phone is on 2.3.4
That's cool my Bionic is on that too. Please let us know what the update is for. Hopefully mine will not be far behind.
Btw there were rumors earlier in the year that Moto would unlock their phones late this year. I find it a little hard to believe, but I wishing it to come true when Icecream sandwich comes out.
+Nick Young-Soares the specs say – better battery life (I do not believe it). Supposedly speeds up the shutter functions…..but its ok – because it will not apply to my phone even if I want it….even after a full un root and reset….
Oh well…..
That sucks.
My girlfriend who came to stay with me has the droid3, and I have to ask, why is the screen so grainy?? That stats of it kick my evo's ass, but the screen was terrible in comparison. Is this a motorola thing? The graphics in the top right just looked old and outdated compared to my HTC…
+Jessi June I think thats just the crap user interface they use……..moto blur….. maybe now that they are owned by the big G it will go away and be a true google phone….
This is entertaining to read, as I am the proud owner of +Brent Burzycki's droid 2. 🙂
+Amyr Haq hey glad its working out….
I wish when you factory reset it actually factory reset so no matter what you have done it will be restored….
Fail…
I was running rooted stock ROM when I received the last update on my Droid X. I just had to unfreeze the bloat, reboot, take the OTA, re-root, and then freeze the bloat again. Took about 20 minutes.
Also, I happen to like the blur apps. I have yet to find a better camera, email, dialer or contacts app that is better than the stock GB blur.
Oh, and one more thing… 🙂 I have always received better battery life on the stock roms, whether removing the bloat or not. I'm still on the fence as to if I'm actually noticing any differences after freezing the bloat.
+William Shockley honeslty I just think the phone might be bad or there is a corrupted file that is not allowing the update…… watch I will need to order a new phone under warranty… too bad they are all sold out….
Did you try to SPF it back to stock and try again? I've SPF'd my X too may times to name and I've never "bricked" it. 🙂
+William Shockley if I knew how I would…. but it just will not take the update and motorola said they will need the phone to reflash it….
Ha…. well – I cannot be without my phone for 5 days… so verizon can just replace it for me….
I would not return the phone rooted, they say that if you have tampered with the device they will charge you full price for the replacement.
+William Shockley its not – it was unrooted….
hey +Brent Burzycki, it all depends on how you dealt with the bloatware. If you just deleted them check XDA forums for help.
I also have a rooted D3 and eliminated bloatware by moving the .apk's… I received the update today in the morning, so I moved the .apk's back to their original place, applied the update, re-rooted with the same method as before and moved the .apk's out of the way. Now it is running great with the new system (5.6.890), google talk with video, among the other new features. I'll check if the battery really improves although I already had 24+ hours by controlling the CPU speed. 😀 happy camper…
I used a one click root tool – ran a script to remove bloat by just .bak the file names… reran the unbloat, unrooted, so technically the phone is back to "normal" – OTA would not apply and crashes halfway through the thing…. I am pretty sure that should not happen as I know many that have rooted and unrooted a zillion times…..
I think its broken…. not from me – but we will see if I get a big fat bill….. that will be my lesson to not mess with them – its not like I did not know before I messed with it…
Have you tried applying the leaked OTA? It's been around for a couple of weeks and it is actually the same OTA update…
+Rodrigo A. Carrasco can you send me the details…. Motorola said it was not avail in a downloadable format….. can you just send it to me or email me…. or link.. whatever.. thanks..
+Lester Barrows yep thats the one click root I used …
+Brent Burzycki there.. I sent you a bunch of links that might be helpful for your problem. I hope one of them can solve it!
Thanks…
Well i got this fixed
🙂
+Chris Burzycki thanks…. I think after getting it fixed I will leave it for a bit….. I should have asked you first…. it was spur of the moment….
