Last look at the 'Love Boat'
What does the death of an icon look like? Our latest Cruise Ship Tour, in the carousel above, offers a last look at one of the most famous cruise ships of the modern era, the Pacific Princess, which is being torn apart at a scrapyard in Turkey. Recognizable to millions of Americans as the "Love Boat" of 1970s television, the one-time Princess Cruises vessel made its final voyage in August to the scrapyard after failing to sell to a new owner. As you can see in the photo tour, by veteran cruise writer and ship photographer Peter Knego, the 42-year-old vessel is sandwiched between several other former cruise ships that are being dismantled in Turkey. In a trip down memory lane, Knego combines images taken during a recent trip to the scrapyard with historical exterior and interior shots taken over the past four decades.
