I use it on my computer a lot to keep base with friends. If you would like to message someone specifically from G+, just type in their name. It will then ask the person permission to let you chat with them in the future. I haven't used the mobile version though.
I use Polish communicator TLEN ver 7.x who do a job for me and serve me all jabber and other messanger services like: GG, O2, AQQ, Facebook, GTalk but 7.x it is still devel version…

Just started using it – it's pretty good.
So your using it like an IM client or to replace direct posts…..
IM client for me. But it seems few people are using it.
wait – maybe I'm misunderstanding you – I'm using it right now in G+ to chat with someone….
Yet it only works from mobile device to mobile device…….
I have used it on the mobile app a few times. It works well and has been useful for local coordination and worldwide curiosity!

So you can only mute or close the chat…..
Maybe in time there will be more features…….
