Click on the battery graph. It will show you a breakdown of cell signal, awake time, screen on, etc. If there is a lot of awake time while screen is off, it might indicate a background app sucking battery. Or, if your cell signal is weak most of the time, that will suck a lot of juice. CPUspy will give you detailed stats of what's consuming cycles. The other possibility is that you just use your phone a lot. I know that's my problem 😉
I highly recommend JuiceDefender by Latedroid. Check out the free version and I'm sure you'll upgrade. You don't need to take my word for it. Just look at the stats, 7MM downloads, 176k ratings and an average of 4.5 stars.
JD does some smart stuff like disabling your data connection if you're in range of a familiar wifi. Disabling GP until an app asks for it, checking gmail FB etc. every 15 mins (or set it to 5 mins) etc etc. It more than doubled my battery life (Galaxy S3) when not using the phone too much (if you use it all the time, the difference is more like 30%). I sprung for the non-free version ($4.99) after two days.
+Joe Bass (see comment above) plus… 4G reception in my apt. is spotty, which is why I suspect that JD's mechanism of turning off data (which prevents the phone from continuously looking for a 4G connection, burning up the juice) works so well for me.
cell signal. if you click on the battery graph, it gives you a detailed breakdown. the first is cell signal, and is represented in strength by red (none, searching) yellow (connected, weak) and green (connected, strong)
Your screenshots look normal Joe. Only thing I can guess is that you use your phone quite a bit. The only time I've gotten over 8 or 9 hours is when I don't use my phone much – like just for phone calls and a few texts, no browsing, no games.
are you on 4.1.2? I've heard good things about battery life on the latest build.
I'm at 34% and 6 hours. 🙁
+Geoff Atteberry no on this phone 4.1.1 becase its Verizon
On my Nexus 7 4.1.2 and that seems pretty good also.. my main issue with the tablet is I never remember to plug it in enough..
+Joe Bass hmm – that seems pretty terrible.. have you looked for apps that are being hogs?
Screen 46% maps 5% Google voice 5%
ah screen… I definitely have mine set very low and on auto brightness…
Yeah, same

Nope. Wake time matches with screen on.
How does your cell signal look +Joe Bass ?

I only use 3g, don't move my phone. I've checked out JD before, but I just stay near a charger so I don't worry about it. Signal is always green.
I have to agree searching for signal of any kinds will destroy the battery
My signal is almost always yellow.
Same here, mine is always yellow.
What signal are we talking about here
I just posted two screenshots

Interesting… Mine is all green with a bit of yellow…
No browsing, no games, no calls. a few tweets and texts.
waitasec… I just gave it another look +Joe Bass . You have a lot of awake time without screen time. How many widgets do you have on your phone?
I blame Skype. Go look at my most recent post. Nearly twice as long without Skype and I think I even had the screen on quite a bit longer too.
+Joe Bass might be the messenger portion.. but skype is a known hog when in standby…I just never leave it on …people can leave a message….
Yeah. I'm just going to stop using it on my phone.
